Our Guiding Principles and Goals

We are a small values driven organisation that aims to assist local authorities to develop services that meet the above aims. We are passionate about our work and between us we have over 60 years of experience in this field. We offer consultancy and advice on strategic development issues, research and evaluation of current circumstances and also provide training and educational courses to front line management and service staff working with people with learning, and other disabilities.

We are also happy to get our hands dirty, and we have been at the forefront of implementing innovative approaches alongside service managers, deliverers, parents and carers and of course most importantly, the clients themselves. The ‘About Us’ page provides more detail of these services.

Group

Our services are guided by the principles encapsulated in (SRV) approaches. These state that services should be tailored to support people with disabilities to become active participants within their local communities, and not set up in a way that separates them out and alienates them from society.

This requires services that support clients to more fully engage in integrated education, employment and leisure activities and develop confidence to make their own decisions and plan their own life destinies. We work alongside our customers to help them achieve these aspirations. These goals also reflect current UK Government guidelines, policies and initiatives for developing services for people with learning disabilities and their families in the UK.

Developing Best Practice

Although this is a major challenge, we believe that the potential for service change is increased significantly when proven methods of good practice are developed, implemented and sustained as a partnership between people with disabilties, their families and local social, health, education employment and community services.

We understand that services do not operate in a void, there are funding constraints, targets to be met and varried  socio-economic environments each with their own unique patterns and networks of local service dilvery.

We aim to assist our customers to tailor their services around local circumstances and this often means developing best practice approaches that are innovative and reflect local realities.

Mark Kilsby (PhD)

I was involved in research at Cardiff University investigating  the best ways to develop supported employment services, alternative approaches to adult day services, and the  transition of teenagers from school into work for 17 years. I have delivered training in supported employment approaches (including TSI) for the last 20 years and, since leaving the university I am enjoying the greater freedom I have to work alongside service users, their families, service providers and planners at a more practical and local level.

I have been involved in Supported Employment in Canada for over twenty years. During this time I have established a reputation as practitioner and innovator in the field. With a focus on transition from school to work for young people with disabilites I designed and developed the Youth Supported Employment Project model in Alberta Canada. The project has proven success and I have had the opportunity to be instrumental in setting up similar projects in Canada, the USA and more recently the UK. I have also established a reputation as an advocate for the rights and full inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of living and have worked closely with family based community living organizations. I have made numerous keynote speeches at major conference venues and have been actively involved in values based training for service organizations for over 16 years.
